Stanley Gold has been a dominant force in the South Florida training ranks for the last decade. He has been dominating the lucrative Florida Stallion Stakes series for two and three year olds during his time in the Sunshine State.

Bill Kaplan a native of Brooklyn, New York has been a mainstay on the South Florida training circuit since 1980.

In 2007 Kaplan became a national name as three horses he selected as two years olds were on the Kentucky Derby Trail. Drums of Thunder + Storm in May and Imawildandcrazyguy became household names during that magical year. Storm in May won the Sunshine Millions Sprint and was second to Curlin in the Arkansas Derby. Drums of Thunder was third in the Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park and Imawildandcrazyguy placed in the Louisiana Derby.

On the first Saturday in May that year both Imawildandcrazyguy and Storm in May both ran in that years Kentucky Derby with Crazy Guy finishing 4th. The amazing story of that journey was that the two horses who ran in the Run for the Roses cost less than $ 30,000.00 each.

Roll the tape to 2011 and Kaplan reached the highest of heights in the racing game as his own Musical Romance who he bought for $ 22,000.00 grabbed the biggest prize with her victory in the One Million Dollar Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Churchill Downs to push her earnings over 1 million dollars.

There are few trainers or agents in the game today who have Bill Kaplan’s gift of selecting horses at prices far below the competition and see them dance on the national stage.

Past Stakes Winners Trained and Selected By Bill Kaplan:

Big Drama’s other lucrative triumph came in the $750,000 Delta Jackpot (G3) in 2008. In 2015, Fawkes enjoyed considerable success with Big Drama’s half-sister, Sheer Drama, who captured the Royal Delta (G2) during Gulfstream’s Championship Meet before notching back-to-back Grade 1 wins in the Personal Ensign (G1) at Saratoga and the Delaware (Park) Handicap. He saddled Sheer Drama for a victory in the Madison Stakes (G1) at Keeneland last spring.
